New statistics released today by the Australian Custodial Services Association (ACSA) show the total amount of assets under custody for Australian investors grew by 4.0 percent in six months to 30 June 2018.

The new figures represent continuing growth for the industry, with total assets under custody (AUC) now standing at $3.62 trillion.

Consistent with the growth in total assets under custody, the amount of overseas client investment into Australia (assets held in sub-custody) also grew by 4.4 percent during the first half of 2018 to $1.54 trillion - representing continued attractiveness of Australia as an investment destination for foreign institutional asset owners.

Reciprocating the rest of the world’s interest in Australia, the data shows an increasing appetite for Australian clients to invest offshore.  The mix of total assets in international markets has increased from approximately 28 percent to 34 percent since June 2014.

This translates to average annual growth in Australian assets of 9 percent, versus international asset growth of 15 percent over the past four years.
